So heading on my first ever white water trip, I’ve been Googling everything and I’ve been hunting for the right clothes etc. To be honest I’m terrified and keep hearing about not to wear cotton but I’m not really sure I want to go all out for a wetsuit which is why I was so pleased to come across the NRS Hydro Skin line.
The key for me was that these were neoprene and came in a variety of thicknesses so you’re not forced into picking either super thick and hot neoprene or thin.
It’s ideal for a variety of different seasons because of this and because it’s the Terraprene Titanium design it also has heat reflective titanium built into it. These 0.5mm thick pants aren’t as thick as a chunky wetsuit and they’re thin enough that you still have plenty of movement because it has four way stretch.
The seams have also been designed to allow better movement and not to cause irritation when moving or paddling which makes them perfect for white water. It’s also treated with DWR to repel water and help them try quickly.
The second feature of these I love is the pocket. While I know you’re supposed to put everything in a dry bag, the little zippered pocket is just big enough that I can still put an essential in there like a whistle/waterproof tracker/etc just in case the worst happens.
It’s also built into the waistband so it sits flush and doesn’t bulge or get in the way of your movement. It’s also titanium laminated so it will keep your things dry, though it’s not very big.
I also want to point out the waistband has a cinch cord and lock design they they’re still a little adjustable and you can tighten them down to make sure water doesn’t get inside.
The cord stays pretty secure so you don’t have to worry about it catching on stuff. The pull cord also makes them much easier to get on as you can loosen them up and then tighten so you won’t have to struggle with pulling neoprene on or sucking anything in.

What Customers are Saying
These are great for chill days and times when it’s not really cold enough for thick neoprene but too cold for shorts. These also protect well from wind and won’t let your legs get cold or hypothermic. They’re perfect for all sorts of water activities like kayaking and diving too.
The only real complaint is that these are quite long – so if you’re short or you bought the men’s instead of women’s you may find the seals at the ankle don’t fit so well.
I’m happy to recommend these water pants because they’re really good quality and the fact that you can get a thickness to suit whatever temperature you need so there’s no reason to be cold on the water again!
Who should Buy This Product?
These are ideal for anyone doing water activities where you don’t need to have the extra warmth or protection of thick neoprene. Diving, kayaking white water rafting etc. These are great for people of every size because there’s loads of different size options, just don’t be too short/tall.
They’re also ideal if you’re like me and you can’t abide the thought of not carrying for every eventuality because of the stash pocket so even if the worse happens you can survive or get rescued if lost.
Who Shouldn’t Buy This Product?
These are not suitable for anyone who is especially tall or short as these are a “standard” length but if you’re short you may be able to try the capri version instead. They’re also not very thick so if you need added insulation you should go up to a 1.5 or more to stay warm, even though these have the titanium treatment. These are also not suitable for anyone allergic to neoprene.
Commonly Asked Questions
- Are the sizes Men’s or Womens?
There are both men’s and women’s versions available both with s-xxl sizes and different lengths.
- How thick are they?
The pant are made of 0.5mm thick Terraprene Neoprene and a ThermalPlush lining.
- What season are these for?
These will work in any season where you don’t need extra insulation but are probably too warm for summer.
- What does “Titanium Layer” neoprene mean?
The Titanium powder is mixed in with the neoprene to provide extra thermodynamics, it is not a metal layer or protective but may keep you slightly warmer than traditional neoprene alone.
- Are these suitable for kayaking?
Yes. These are suitable for all sorts of water activities including diving, kayaking, rafting, and fishing. They may be too warm for hot climates though.
- How “roomy” are they?
These fit true to size and are intended on being snug to the skin. If they are too loose they won’t be waterproof so you should buy the size you normally wear rather than sizing up but there is some stretch.
These NRS HydroSkin pants have great movement and are thick enough to protect your skin from wind, water, and rock abrasion when out and about. These will prevent your legs getting cold and if you need a winter version or more warmth you can always get a thicker type. These have a good fit and aren’t super expensive compared to some water gear – cheaper than a helmet!
